Abstract
The development of a simulation tool based on an existing model published in the literature to investigate the effects of consolidation force, processing speed, hot gas flow and repetitive passes on void content development during manufacture of fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composite laminate tapes is described. Experimental data for void distribution through thickness and density of carbon fibre-reinforced poly(etheretherketone) laminated plates manufactured by automatic tape placement process are discussed in comparison with the results of simulations using the model and the most significant processing parameters are identified. 16 refs.
