Abstract
Environmentally friendly, water-borne PU was prepared from a polyester polyol, isophorone diisocyanate and dimethylol propionic acid and polyurethane-acrylate dispersions were obtained from different proportions of butyl acrylate and methyl acrylate by an in-situ dispersion technique. The structures, optical transparency, physical properties, mechanical properties and heat stabilities of the PU and polyurethane-acrylate dispersions and films prepared therefrom were investigated and compared. The polyurethane-acrylates were found to possess better transparency, higher tensile strength and lower elongation at break and were considered potential candidates for coatings, leather finishing, adhesives, sealants, plastics coating and wood finishes. 10 refs.
