Abstract
The preparation of thermoplastic elastomers based on blends of epoxidised natural rubber with different epoxide group contents, derived via in-situ epoxidation, and various proportions of polystyrene latex from a commercial source or synthesised in-house by emulsion polymerisation, is described. The products were characterised by tensile strength, elongation at break, Shore A hardness, morphology (SEM) and glass transition temperature (DSC), and the effects of polystyrene and epoxide group contents on mechanical and thermal properties of the blends are discussed in terms of compatibility and miscibility. 8 refs.
