Abstract
The modification of corn cob by graft copolymerisation with a mixture of acrylamide and methacrylic acid using ferrous ammonium sulphate/hydrogen peroxide as redox initiator under various reaction conditions, and the characterisation of the products by FTIR, SEM and TGA, is described. The effects of monomer mass ratio, initiator concentration, reaction temperature and time on graft copolymerisation were investigated in terms of grafting percentage and grafting efficiency, and the results are discussed in terms of optimisation of reaction conditions and potential applications in wastewater treatment. 15 refs.
