Abstract
The preparation via melt blending of nanocomposites of high density polyethylene with various proportions of barium sulphate nanoparticles modified by treatment with sodium stearate as filler, and their characterisation by SEM (morphology), DSC (crystallisation and thermal properties), XRD (crystal structure), DMA (storage modulus and loss tangent), tensile and impact testing, is described. The effects of filler content on mechanical properties and crystallisation behaviour of the nanocomposites were investigated and the results are discussed in terms of nucleation and reinforcement. 30 refs.
