Abstract
An investigation was carried out into the effect of the level of adhesion between PP tubes on the mechanical properties of honeycomb sandwich panels fabricated from PP, epoxy adhesive and plywood. The adhesion level of the honeycomb core was varied by altering the duration of corona surface treatment of the PP tubes and the influence of surface treatment on adhesion studied by contact angle measurements. Core delamination, compression and flexural tests were also performed on the sandwich structures, which revealed that the mechanical properties of the sandwich panels improved with increasing adhesion strength between the PP tubes. 13 refs.
