Abstract
Cotton fibre was subjected to heterogeneous surface acetylation with acetic anhydride in an oil bath at 130 degrees C using Na”2CO”3 as a catalyst to enhance reactivity. The effect of reaction time on fibre acetylation was investigated by determination of ester content of the acetylated fibres, ATR FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, static and dynamic contact angle measurements and field emission scanning electron microscopy. 26 refs.
