Abstract
The synthesis of nanocomposites of poly(acrylic acid) with various proportions of titanium dioxide nanoparticles by aqueous solution polymerisation of acrylic acid and potassium acrylate in the presence of N,N’-methylene bisacrylamide as crosslinking agent, potassium persulphate as initiator and the nanoparticles, is described. The products were characterised by SEM, XRD, FTIR and UV-visible spectroscopy, and the effects of reaction conditions including titanium dioxide content, crosslinker amount, degree of neutralisation and monomer concentration on catalytic efficiency in the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange were investigated. 24 refs.
