Abstract
A commercial vinyl ester-urethane resin was modified with various amounts of organophilic layered silicates and the effects of the organophilic layered silicates, including their modifiers, on the structure and properties of the resulting nanocomposites investigated. Organophilic intercalants employed were trimethyl dodecylamine and octadecylamine-N,N-bis(allyl(2-hydroxypropyl)ether). The results are discussed in terms of organophilic layered silicate intercalation, DMTA behaviour, fracture mechanics, failure behaviour, water absorption and diffusion coefficients. 14 refs.
