Abstract
The commercial development of latent tin mercaptides blocked with organic groups as heat stabilisers for extruded poly(vinyl chloride)(PVC) pipes as a replacement for lead-based stabilisers is described. The stabilisation mechanism and performance attributes including thermal stability under processing conditions, rheology and recyclability of PVC systems containing the heat stabilisers are discussed in comparison with those for lead-containing and alternative commercial calcium-zinc based systems. 11 refs.
