Abstract
The effects of coupling agent (maleated PP) and fibre content on the physical and mechanical properties of a PP composite containing poplar fibre as the reinforcing filler were investigated. The elastic modulus, modulus of rupture, internal bonding and dimensional stability of the composites were determined and the influence of temperature on water absorption and thickness swelling examined. The mechanical strengths of the composites improved slightly as fibre loading increased and physicomechanical properties were significantly improved with the addition of the coupling agent. 16 refs.
