Abstract
The leaching into water or artificial saliva of residual methacrylic acid and methyl methacrylate monomers from poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) plates synthesised by different polymerisation methods, including auto-polymerisation, thermal polymerisation and microwave-assisted polymerisation, was investigated by HPLC coupled to a UV detector. The results are discussed in terms of methods of reducing possible health hazards resulting from leaching of residual monomers from PMMA denture bases. 47 refs.
