Abstract
Crack resistance layer, a layer of aramid stuck on the surface of ceramics, can effectively prevent the splashing of fragment of a bullet under attack. It bounds the fragment within the structure and the friction between bullet and ceramics arouses tremendous energy consumption. Here, we compare the impact tests with and without crack resistance layer to investigate the effect of crack resistance layer. By analysing the friction between bullet and ceramic, the friction mass, and energy absorption, we study the nature of crack resistance layer protection behaviour. As the surface density of this structure increases 1%, the impact resistance and energy absorption efficiency are substantially enhanced. 28 Refs.
