Abstract
Oxidative polymerisation of aniline using solution polymerisation with an aniline/ammonium persulphate ratio of 2:1 in the presence of a montmorillonite clay resulted in the formation of a nanocomposite. The composites were characterised using X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy and it was observed that the polyaniline was largely incorporated into the clay. Electrical conductivity of the nanocomposites was investigated and was found to follow a temperature dependence relationship that was associated with one-dimensional variable-range hopping. 21 refs.
