Abstract
Nanocomposites of styrene-butadiene rubber reinforced with modified hectorite clay as nano reinforcement have been processed by solution blending. Hectorite has been modified by octadecyl amine (O-Hc); by grafting with silane coupling agent N-(3-trimethoxysilyl) propyl ethylene diamine (S-Hc) and by both methods (OS-Hc) to be used as a nano reinforcement material. Styrene-butadiene rubber nanocomposites based on Octadecyl amine (O-Hc) modified nanoclay; silane coupling agent N-(3-trimethoxysilyl) propyl ethylene diamine grafted nanoclay (S-Hc); and nanoclay modified by both methods (OS-Hc); as reinforcers show improved mechanical properties, as compared to styrene-butadiene-rubber. 61 Refs.
