Abstract
The preparation of nanocomposites of epoxy resin infused with various proportions of a commercially available surface modified montmorillonite nanoclay as filler, and their characterisation by DMA, quasi-static compression testing, tensile testing, flexural testing, high strain rate compression using the split Hopkinson pressure bar, and SEM analysis of fracture surfaces, is described. The effects of filler content on mechanical and thermomechanical properties of the nanocomposites are discussed in terms of phase morphology and interfacial interactions. 12 refs.
