Abstract
The preparation of biodegradable nanocomposite elastomers from natural rubber latex with various proportions of cassava starch and organically-modified montmorillonite (OMMT) clay, and their characterisation after curing by XRD, TEM, tensile testing, water absorption and soil burial tests, is described. The results are discussed in terms of the effects of starch and OMMT contents on structure, tensile properties, water sorption, biodegradability and morphology of the nanocomposites. 27 refs.
