Abstract
Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-coated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), prepared via solvent-casting method have been used for the fabrication of BisGMA (Bisphenol-A glycidyldimethacrylate) nanocomposites with PVP-coated MWCNT contents of 2, 5, 7, 10, 12 weight per cent. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy indicates successful coating of PVP onto MWCNTs and scanning electron microscopy shows the dispersion of nanofillers in the matrix. 45% increase in tensile strength, 25% increase in Young’s Modulus and improved thermal conductivity, dielectric strength and dielectric constant is observed for 10 wt% nanofiller loading. The volume conductivity and surface conductivities increased by 1.0 E-10 S/cm and 1.0 E-9 S for the same level of filler loading. The corrosive and water absorption properties of the composites are also reported. 18 Refs.
