Abstract
The aim of this work is to find a new material by blending PP with oligopinene resins in order to modify the mechanical, adhesive, permeability and sealing properties of PP and to find ways of increasing the usage of pinene oligomers. Changes in the physical properties, melting behaviour and morphology of PP blended with low molar mass oligopinene resin were evaluated. When the amount of oligopinene increased n the blends, the elastic modulus, stress at break, hardness and density all increase, while the elongation at break shows an abrupt drop because of the hard-brittle nature of the oligomer. The blend changes its behaviour from ductile to brittle above 10%-wt. of the oligomer. SEM results indicate that the oligopinene phase is located mainly in the intraspherulitic regions of the PP. 13 refs.
