Abstract
Annealed polyester fibres were investigated by the use of multiple-beam Fizeau fringes in transmission to determine the effects of heat treatment by the determination of refractive indices of their skin and core layers.. Optical orientation parameters were obtained by the application of equations used by Hermans and Ward. Some structural parameters such as electric polarisability, and the density of the samples was measured by a system based on the theory of vibrating strings. The density and optical results were used to calculate the degree of crystallinity, the mean square density fluctuation, the form birefringence, the number on monomeric units per unit volume, the harmonic mean polarisability of the dielectric, and the harmonic mean specified refractive index. 33 refs.
