Abstract
This paper describes the use of an electrical resistance change method for the identification of damage in electrically conductive composites. The method involves the standardisation of measured electrical resistance changes in order to identify the delamination location more precisely. The method was applied to cross-ply and quasi-isotropic laminated beams, and the effectiveness of the method was confirmed experimentally. In addition, the effect of the stacking sequence was investigated experimentally. It is confirmed that, although the standardised electrical resistance changes of the two stacking sequences resembled each other when the delamination location and length were similar, response surfaces to estimate delamination location must be made individually to obtain reliable results. 21 refs.
