Abstract
Experimental work is described to develop flame retardant PP using halogenated and halogen-free additives, to meet V0 requirements according to the UL94 standard for the manufacture of injection moulded battery cases, and to study the effects of the flame retardant on the mechanical properties of PP. The batteries investigated are used as back-up units in the telecommunications industries, and use sulphuric acid as the electrolyte. The effect of flame retardant additives on the heat sealing properties is also investigated.
