Abstract
The performance of a rehabilitated pipe is examined with respect to the effects of fabric surface treatments on the performance of the structural composites used to rehabilitate the pipeline, and in particular, the effects on performance, created as a result of the permeability of the resin to the fibre bundles. Results are reported of tensile and pipe performance tests carried out on PE/epoxy materials in which the PE fibres were pre-treated to remove the binder and/or sized. It was shown that the tensile modulus of the composites was increased by pre-treatment and that the tensile strength remained almost the same. The strength retention of pre-treated composites was higher than that of composites with both a binder and a size. Differences in pipe performance were caused by the different interphase resulting from pre-treatment and/or sizing. 7 refs.
