Abstract
Palsule equation for tensile Modulus of short fibre reinforced polymer composites has been derived as the first equation that accounts for the aspect ratio of reinforcement as follows: Ec cKL [EmVm mEfVf]VKT [(Ef + lambdaEm) +lambdaVf (Ef-Em / (Ef +lambdaEm) – psiVf (Ef -Em)]. This study demonstrates that Palsule equation predicts the Young’s modulus of a short fibre reinforced polymer composite, more accurately, if KL and KT and not assigned fixed values of 1/8 and 1/4 respectively; and depending upon fibre distribution in the composite, the value of KL may vary between 1/2 and 1/8, and of KT may vary between 1/2 and 1/8. 16 Refs.
