Abstract
Composites of epoxy reinforced by polycarbosilane derived -silicon carbide coated multi wall carbon nano tubes (PCS-MWCNT) with zinc borate additive have been developed. With increasing reinforcement material, the composites exhibit decrease in tensile strength, flexural strength and impact strength but show an increase in tensile modulus, flexural modulus and thermal stability. SEM shows uniform and homogeneous dispersion of PCS-MWCNTs throughout the epoxy matrix. Flame retarding properties and limiting oxygen index of the composites improves with addition of zinc borate. 21 Refs.
