**Abstract**
The curing of polychloroprene rubber using zinc oxide nanoparticles, synthesised by homogeneous precipitation from zinc nitrate and ammonium carbonate solutions followed by calcination and characterised by TEM, as curing agent was investigated by FTIR, SEM, tensile testing, DMTA and swelling studies. The mechanical and dynamic mechanical properties are discussed in comparison with those obtained using rubber grade zinc oxide in terms of crosslink density and interactions between rubber and curing agent. 28 refs.
