**Abstract**
Properties of porous membranes in which the pore size could be adjusted by pH conditions were discussed. Scanning electron microscopy was used to illustrate the effect. Membranes were prepared from cellulose acetate, and a non-linear mathematical model was designed and described to explain the pore size control. Similar behaviour with respect to temperature was also mentioned and the membranes could be used to simulate natural body organs such as the kidney or liver that also adjust pore size with the prevailing conditions. 18 refs.
