**Abstract**
 The preparation of bacterial cellulose-starch nanocomposites using modified Acetobacter sp. growing medium via a bottom-up technique that allows starch to be introduced into the cellulose network is described. The morphological properties of hot-pressed sheets of the nanocomposites were investigated by ESEM and AFM with data processing by image analysis, and the results are discussed in terms of network properties, such as mesh size and fibre orientation, and the analysis of fracture surfaces. 12 refs.
