**Abstract**
 The mechanical properties of composite sandwich beam and panel structures, composed of glass fibre-reinforced vinyl ester resin composite laminate face sheets and a cross-linked poly(vinyl chloride) closed-cell foam core and fabricated by the vacuum infusion method, when subjected to low velocity impact were investigated experimentally using a drop-weight test rig. The experimental data are discussed in comparison with the predictions of a finite element model developed to simulate impact response. 25 refs.
