**Abstract**
The preparation of cast films of ionically-conducting thermoplastic starch plasticised with the ionic liquid 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride with various concentrations of lithium chloride, and their characterisation by AFM, FTIR, TGA, DMTA, water absorption and volume resistivity measurements in comparison with those obtained for glycerol-plasticised starch is described. The effects of lithium chloride concentration on plasticisation, thermal stability, water absorption and electrical conductivity of the thermoplastic starch were investigated and the results are discussed in terms of potential applications as solid biopolymer electrolytes. 12 refs.
