**Abstract**
 The preparation of nanocomposites of an epoxy resin cured with a tertiary amine and modified with liquid polysulphide, and various proportions of organically modified montmorillonite clay nanoparticles, and their characterisation by XRD (filler dispersion), TEM (morphology), tensile stress-strain properties, tensile strength, elongation at break, DMA and SEM (fracture morphology) measurements, is described. The effects of organoclay content on the adhesive properties of the nanocomposites were investigated by lap shear tests using aluminium adherends and the results are discussed in terms of the interaction between the adhesive and substrate in the presence of filler. 30 refs.
