**Abstract**
The fabrication of a new type of E-glass fibre-reinforced epoxy resin (GFRP) rebar by a combination of pultrusion and press moulding to produce surface deformations similar to those of steel rebars, and their characterisation by SEM, tensile strength and elastic modulus measurements, is described. The flexural properties of concrete beams reinforced with the new rebar with various reinforcement ratios and depths of concrete cover were investigated by monotonic loading up to failure and the results are discussed in comparison with those obtained for concrete beams reinforced with commercial GFRP rebars in terms of failure mode, moment-curvature, flexural capacity, load-deflection and crack width. 19 refs.
