**Abstract**
 Preparation of short fibre composites is examined with reference to the use of a two-roll mill, and the effect of fibre length on mechanical properties. In this study, 50 mm glass fibres were used to prepare acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber-phenolic glass fibre composites. Fibre breakage during processing was studied, and the fibre critical length was calculated. On the basis of the critical length, the usefulness of the two-roll mill method for preparing glass-NBR-phenolic composites was assessed. 10 refs.
