**Abstract**
The effect of the interface on the compression properties of hollow glass microsphere/epoxy composites fabricated under varying interfacial conditions by surface treating the microspheres with a silane coupling agent and also with a silicone oil decoupling agent. The microsphere-to-matrix interaction was also changed by varying the hardener to epoxy monomer ratio. The results obtained were compared with those derived from various mathematical models and discussed in terms of interfacial strength and changes in the reinforcing effect and stress concentration due to the presence of the microspheres. 31 refs.
