**Abstract**
Characterisation methods are reported which are used in the evaluation of chemical changes to glass fibre/epoxy prepregs during storage in an environment chamber. Such methods included infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis and other chemical methods to measure the volatile and insoluble components content. Precuring is found to take place during storage as a result of a chemical reaction between some epoxide groups. Tests were carried out on laminates made from prepregs that had been degraded to different degrees, and flexural and tensile properties were found to be significantly reduced as a consequence of the increase in the precured degree of the prepregs. 11 refs.
