**Abstract**
 Superfine silk powder was blended with polyamide-6 and the blends extruded and hot pressed into films. The dyeing and mechanical properties of the blend films were investigated and the interfacial adhesion and microstructure of the blend films studied by various methods, including scanning electron microscopy. The blends were found to be compatible and their dyeability dependent on silk powder content. Mechanical properties of the blend films decreased compared with those of polyamide-6 film and addition of silk powder favoured the formation of gamma-monoclinic crystals of polyamide-6 in the films, as observed by ATR FTIR spectroscopy and wide angle X-ray diffraction. 25 refs.
