**Abstract**
The bond properties of glass fibre-reinforced vinyl ester resin composite dowel bars of circular or elliptical cross-section installed at the transverse joints of concrete slabs were investigated experimentally using draw-out and push-back tests to simulate the repeated shrinkage and expansion movements of the concrete due to temperature and humidity changes. The effects of dowel bar size and shape on pull-out strength are discussed in terms of resistance to destruction of the concrete slabs by curling. 13 refs.
