**Abstract**
The sacrificial transformation of antioxidants is an inevitable consequence of their active role in the protection of plastics from oxidation. The process results in various new products, some of which are responsible for the discoloration of plastics. The chemical structures of the principal colourants arising from phenolic and aromatic amine antioxidants and phenolic UV absorbers are outlined. 23 refs.
